The State Workforce Board met on June 13 & 14 to review WIA plans for 2013-2014. I’m happy to report that LWIA 8’s plan was approved unanimously. The approval comes two weeks after the State Board Planning Committee heard every local area present their plan of action for the upcoming year. I had the opportunity to present the plan for Area 8.
During the plan presentation, I highlighted the upcoming changes in the Career Center System, including the withdrawal of State Staff in Dickson, Franklin and Springfield. I was able to reiterate that Workforce Essentials would be maintaining a WIA presence in each of the counties affected by the state layoffs. I also detailed how the layoffs would affect the Career Center customers and increase the workload for our staff.
While I was happy that our plan was approved, it is bittersweet. We have to say farewell to some of the greatest staff, partners and friends of over 20 years in the centers.
I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank the Tennessee Department of Labor staff that work in Dickson, Franklin and Springfield.
The DOL staff that are leaving:
Dickson County: Marian Brooks, Weldon Floyd, Barbara Hamilton, Shanna Tenold, and Peter Toth (Peter and Weldon will still be working with DOL, but he will no longer be in Dickson.)
Robertson County: Danny Dorris, Rosemary Douglas, Patricia Clark (Mike Elliott will still be working with DOL, but he will no longer be in Robertson.)
Williamson County: Angela Jones, Pat Kuhlmanm, Delorse Lewis, and (Richard Michie will still be working with DOL, but he will no longer be in Williamson.
Best Wishes,
Marla Rye
